19:24 EST (00:24 BST)

So today was all planned in advance to ensure we got everything done that we needed to do on our last day in NYC. This was slightly messed up by the fact we didn't wake up till 10am but we both needed the sleep. So we started by heading up Broadway to Zabar's to get a picnic breakfast/brunch, we chose to get their speciality rye bread, some pastrami, sliced roast beef, smoked mozzarella and some "Supremely Spicy" humus, all of which we took to the park adjacent to the Natural History Museum which we were visiting as it was the last ticket on our city passes.

Once inside the museum we did a quick tour round the North American Animals, then didn't look round the biodiversity exhibition as for some reason they decided that it was a suitable place to include several different Sea Urchin varieties, which, considering there were children about, was i feel unsuitable! By this time it was time for our show in the planetarium which was all about astrophysical collisions and which was really very good. After the planetarium we were feeling more than a little tired (which is rich really seeing as though we both slept in!) but we both wanted to have a look at the meteorites and minerals that they had on show, and then there was the small matter of the Dinosaur collection!! The Dinosaurs were a little disappointing, but the meteorites were pretty spectacular and the gemstones not far off being the same. We went for a quick wander round the shop and were quite taken with a stunning purple geode that they had on sale. Steve was halfway to the tills when he noticed that it had a label on the back saying "geode, dyed" which pretty much took the wind out of the sails on that idea. However we found a suitably beautiful natural geode which we purchased for a relatively small price ($15).

By the time we had finished in the Natural History Museum it was 3pm and we were both starting to get the pangs of hunger and so made our way to the Subway and took the 20min trip across the East River to Brooklyn to find Grimaldi's Pizzeria which is just underneath the Brooklyn Bridge and which was paid for in advance by Mike and Lynn who failed to find it when they visited. We ordered a pepperoni, ham, ricotta and mushroom "small" pizza. The reason for the small pizza, for those who were wondering why we would order just a small pizza and nothing else is that their smallest pizza was 16"!! The pizza was very good indeed, although the service left a lot to be desired (maybe we've just been spoiled over the last few days!).

We then decided to head back to Manhattan across the bridge and although it was chucking it down M really enjoyed it, i don't think S was as keen, he seemed a little preoccupied by the way it shook slightly. Once on the other side we got the Subway to the Empire State Building to drop in on a comic book shop we had seen previously and then M was feeling very damp tired and in need of a cuppa so we headed home where we are still recuperating before heading to China Town for dinner.
